Khomotso Phetla - Borderless Grounds

Drawn from the mundane landscape of a daily commute, this work reflects the time and energy we as humans carry, sometimes noticeably and sometimes unnoticed. 'Stone carry me' is about stone not only as an object but as a part that also needs to be recognised — an invitation to pause, breathe, and recognise what the creator has brought to the moment, caring for what is here rather than worrying too much about what lies beyond. Drawing on ancient Ethiopian philosophy, the work asks us to remember that heaven is here on earth, if we pause, breathe, and live.

Charcoal and collage on brown paper. 29.7 x 21 cm (30 x 40 x 5 cm framed). 2026. Original, 1 of a 4-piece series.
